Who is the coolest and cutest baby on the planet?

I believe in every parent’s eyes, the own kid is the coolest and cutest baby on the planet. Even he/she doesn’t really look handsome or pretty at the young ages, they are really cool and cute especially in parent’s heart.

I’ve named my girl’s site Coolest Baby Moon because she didn’t like to smile or laugh especially when she was a newborn and we hardly capture her smiles using camera. When she grows elder, she smiles and laugh a lot but still not well trained how to smiles in front of camera. :)

Now, I’m expecting my No.2 and still early to find out is a he or a she. Either boy or girl is not so important, the most important is a he/she is a healthy baby.  :)

So, the question is, if I were to have another website/blog for my second little one, what should I name the site? Cutest Baby Moon? I’m not dare to name it using “cutest” because in my eyes, the kids are cute when they are well behave, make fun and joy with you. However, when they make noise without reasons, naughty and stubborn, they are “devil”! Totally not cute at all! This is my own parenting experience. Haha..

Another reason of not considering Cutest Baby Moon is because my new friend, Andy Hun is named his daughter “Coolest baby on the planet” and his son “Cutest baby on the planet”. So, if I were to use the cutest for my little one, I become a copycat! Hehe.. Oh, let me clarify, coolest baby moon is not copy from him, I just know him personally today and know about his “coolest and cutest baby on the planet”. :)

You may visit his coolest baby – Amelia Hun, his cutest baby – Ethan Hun

Also, Andy shares with me that his two websites rank #1 for keywords “coolest baby on the planet” and “cutest baby on the planet”. That’s really cool! :)

But my site also not bad, my site ranks #1 for “coolest baby in Singapore”, “coolest baby in Malaysia” “Singapore coolest baby” and “Malaysia coolest baby”. Ok ok, stop for the show off.. Haha..

Baby will become toddler and then kid and teenager. So, I have registered a domain name under my girl’s name so that very soon her schoolmates and friends are able to visit her site, I mean this site using her real name. :) I’m planning to let her handle her own site in future.

So, how you think? Who is the coolest and cutest baby on the planet? My Baby Moon? Andy’s Amelia and Ethan? I believe in your heart, your kids are the coolest and cutest baby on the planet! Haha.. :)

Children Learn More Than One Language

Should children learn more than one language in their young age? Can they cope with more than one language? If so, when is the good time to teach them the second language? What are the advantages or disadvantages to raise bilingual children?

I have all these questions in my mind early when I was expecting my Baby Moon. I was thinking what language I should focus on her and talk to her since young. I have seen many young parents from Chinese educated talk with their children in English and I was wondering this is a correct method of raising the kids especially we are Chinese.

I always understand English is an important language and it becomes more important when kids grow up and enter into corporate world. Like many other parents, I also hope my children good in English, not only good but excellent. However, I have decided to speak Mandarin with my girl instead of English. These are some of the reasons of mine:

I’m from Chinese educated and not really good in English conversation especially come to casual talk at home. I don’t want to “input” her with improper English (in Singapore, called Singlish) and affect her later study of proper and formal English. Besides, our friends in different nation are so keen in learning Mandarin, I should not have reason not to let my girl master our own language.

When the first day Baby Moon went to nursery, I had a bit worry she couldn’t understand what her teachers were speaking to her. All the while, she only chance to “get in touch” with English when watching her favourite “Barney” and “Hi 5”. After seen her well behave and likes to attend school, I believe she copes well and just need more time for her second language.

Of course I also hope that she can do better with English, but recently she is picking up more words and sentences in Mandarin. I don’t want to confuse her, so I insist to teach her words in Mandarin and speak proper Mandarin.

I’ve done some searches in Google and found a very good site about Multilingual Children. It gives me lots of information about raising children in multi languages, you should also read their articles at Multilingual Children Association:

Baby Moon first day to school

1st of April (April Fool) is Baby Moon’s first day to school! She is enrolled in Nursery 1. When the time I registered, I still thought she would be in playgroup, but the principal said even she is a year-end baby, she is considered 3 years old toddler.

Once enrolled in school, it’s difficult to have long holidays, that’s the reason I let her enjoyed a long holidays in Malaysia before she starts her N1. We did some preparation before the first day. Two weeks ago we started to tell her about going to school, learning, reading and having fun with the friends. We let her has the mind preparation to school. And of course my brother and sister who are studying and staying with me have shown her good examples of going to school. Therefore, she never refuse to the idea of “studying” and “schooling”.

Last Sunday, Mummy and daddy brought her to get a new school bag and a pencil box. Her grandma said she doesn’t need the pencil box at her age, but I still get her one. Hehe.. :)

What Are The Benefits of Preschool

Baby Moon is going to nursery next month and she is no longer a baby but a 3 years old toddler. All the while I have been seriously thought about the necessity of enrolling her in preschool. It seems to me that society is rushing children into adulthood these days. So, before I enrolled her into nursery, I did some researches and found that there are some benefits of preschool.

Benefits of Preschool
Children who go to effective preschool are:

  • More likely to become good readers in elementary school. Preschool gets kids ready to read.
  • Less likely to be placed in special education or held back a grade. Preschool gets kids ready to learn.
  • More likely to graduate from high school and attend college.
  • Less likely to need public assistance as adults.

The Benefits of Preschool When Starting Kindergarten
Also, there are many benefits for your child if he goes to preschool before starting kindergarten. Below a few of them are discussed in further detail to give you a good idea of why preschool can help your child prepare for kindergarten.

Social Skills
Sending your child to preschool really helps him develop social skills. It might not seem like a big deal, but once your child is in kindergarten and interacting with other kids all day long it will become evident why social skills are so important. Enrolling your child in preschool, even if it is two or three days a week, will allow your child to make friends, learn how to share, learn to follow directions, and become a social butterfly. This is not to say that kids who dont go to preschool wont be able to socialize well in kindergarten, just that kids who go to preschool already know how to socialize when the arrive in kindergarten.

Basic Knowledge
A good way to prepare your child for kindergarten is through preschool. Most preschools teach the basics like the alphabet, numbers, colors, days of the week, and more. If your child has these basics when he enters kindergarten then he will have more confidence and be able to learn faster. This is really important and your child is the one who will benefit. Kids who don’t go to preschool will still learn in kindergarten, its just that their learning curve wont be as accelerated as those children who attended preschool.

No Separation Anxiety
Another benefit of children who attend preschool is that they get over their separation anxiety earlier or at least reduce it significantly. If your child is accustomed to being with you all day long every day and you just all of a sudden drop him off at school for an entire day he may have some serious crying and tantrum fits and a big case of separation anxiety. However, if your child attends preschool and gradually learns that when you drop him off that you will return he will understand he is not being abandoned and can have fun at school.

Well, by reading the above benefits and advantages of preschool, I have finally decided to enrol Baby Moon to a half day nursery. Full day nursery is too long hours for my Baby Moon and for me. I would like to have more time with her and not only the few hours left at night.

I believe next week is going to be a new chapter and new environment for Baby Moon and I’m going to experience something new too – Her first day in nursery! :)

Baby Moon Enjoys Her Holidays in Malaysia

Yeah~~ Baby Moon is enjoying her holidays in Malaysia and will stay at Mummy Moon’s hometown until end of March.

Have taken some photos at the airport using my handphone but cannot download to computer (forget to bring along the connector) :P Share with you all next time yah! I have a photo of her first time travel by flight at Hubpages. If you want to see how she enjoyed her first flight, just click the post – Traveling safely with your child.

This time Baby Moon has encountered the air pressure and cause her ears painful 15 minutes before landed. Wow, you can imagine how loud she cried and luckily the flight landed very soon.

The first funny thing she made was at the airport. Yah, she always pronounce Barney as “Babi” and I have corrected her many times but still useless. In the airport, I just happened to see a big toy – Barney and was so excited to show her the big toy. And guess what, she said, “Babi”! Oh No! She shouldn’t say that word in front of the Malay shopkeepers. Luckily they were not angry but laughed at her. Heehee.. :)

Baby Moon enjoyed her new environment and forgot about her favourite toys – Barney and Doraemon for the first two days. BUT.. she remembered and missed her toys friends since third day and we have to get her a new Doraemon. See, this is her new Doraemon and Mummy Moon’s toys.

Baby Moon’s messages to:

Daddy: Hello daddy, I miss you only when mummy reminds me. I’m so busy. Grandpa drives me to market early in the morning and we have many places to go even in the afternoon or night time. I don’t need to walk and take train but can sit comfortly inside the car. Heheee.. The only thing is the weather is very hot here and no air-con. :)

Jiu Jiu (Uncle): Hello Jiu Jiu, I didn’t miss you because here got lots of Jiu Jiu (Uncles). They plays with me and I’m happy playing with them. I want them to feed me and also help to dress me up after shower. They watch VCD with me and also play ball with me.

Ah Yi (Aunty): Hi Ah Yi, I miss you sometimes but here also got elder Ah Yi (Aunty) to talk with me. Although she is not so funny like you but she also sayang me a lot. She gave me Doraemon stickers and toys to play. You must be very lonely without me at home! Haha..

Don’t miss me too much and I will be back very soon.. :)

Potty Training for Baby Moon

My girl is 3 yrs old this year and I think is time to potty train her. All the while she is using Mamy Poko Pants and if you aware of the price, you should know that this brand of pants type diaper is more expensive. We have tried to change another type or brand for her but she couldn’t get use to it and the more serious problem is the diaper rashes by other brands. We have no choice but to stick to this diaper pants.

I have tried to potty train her few months ago and she kept on refuse me when I told her to pee herself. She said “don’t want! don’t want!” and I guess this is the word she most fluent with. Haha.. And during that time I thought maybe it’s too early and she is not ready yet, so I hold the idea back.

Recently I try to speak to her about learning to go toilet by herself. She seems not so rejected and I think I should start to potty train her. I’ve done some researches about potty train and I get some good information which I would like to share with you in case you need to potty train your kids too.

Here’s the good potty training tips that I read about:

1) Signs of Readiness for Toilet Training
2) Advice on when to potty train your toddler, getting started, tips for successful potty training with boys and girls and common potty training problems.
3) Tips for Potty Training
4) Potty Training Tips for both Parent and Child
5) 20 Best-Ever Potty Training Tips
6) 7 Sure-Fire Tips For Potty Training Toddlers
7) Potty Training Tips

I believe there will sure have some funny things happen during the potty train. I just hope that she won’t pee on the sofa or on the bed sheet. Haa.. :)

This is BabyMoon’s potty. I bought it when she was still a newborn.. :)
